When to Seek Emergency Eye Care
Sudden changes to your vision and injuries to your eye and the surrounding area—including chemical exposure—may require urgent eye care.
If you or someone you know experience sudden eye pain, redness, discomfort, vision loss, or another concerning symptom, don’t hesitate to seek help. We’re just a phone call away. Our team is equipped to help you promptly and effectively.
We can guide you through sudden eye emergencies with compassion and expertise.

Understanding Eye Emergencies
We prioritize your well-being above anything else. If you encounter swelling, redness, or pain in your eyes, it can be crucial to seek prompt medical attention. Eye damage can result in partial or complete loss of vision without appropriate treatment.
If you experience an emergency outside of our regular hours or can’t reach us, don’t hesitate to visit an emergency room or urgent care centre. Your safety and vision are our top priorities, and we’re here to support you through eye emergencies with care and expertise.
Flashes & Floaters
Floaters, which are also referred to as floating spots, are tiny, semi-transparent cobwebs, specks, or squiggles that can appear in your visual field. These particles move along with eye movements but tend to drift or lag behind. At times, they may be accompanied by flashes of light.
Floaters aren’t always a sign of an emergency, but a sudden increase in flashes or floaters can be a sign of a retinal issue that requires prompt care.
Foreign Objects in the Eye
When a foreign object finds its way into your eye, it can be essential to seek prompt assistance to prevent potential eye damage or vision loss. Even tiny particles like sand or dust can cause irritation.
Our team can carefully examine your eye, help safely remove foreign objects, provide treatment to help alleviate discomfort, and provide recommendations for any additional treatment that may be necessary.
Pink Eye
Pink eye (conjunctivitis) has several causes and varieties. It can cause discomfort but doesn’t usually threaten your vision. In some cases, treatments can ease the discomfort.
Because some types of pink eye are highly contagious, it’s important to get it diagnosed early and take precautions to avoid spreading it.
Shingles
Untreated shingles can result in permanent eye damage and vision loss. It’s crucial to seek medical attention promptly if you suspect you may have shingles, especially if symptoms like pain, a rash, or blisters appear near your eyes.
Early treatment can help prevent complications and safeguard your eye health.
Chemical Exposure
Chemicals that are solid, liquid, powder, or aerosol may harm your eyes. If you experience a chemical eye injury, gently flush your eyes with clear, lukewarm water for 20 minutes, remove your contact lenses if you’re wearing any, and seek urgent eye care.
Sudden Vision Changes
Any sudden changes in your sight can be treated as a sign of an urgent need for eye care. Sudden vision loss can be caused by injuries, complications from other eye diseases, and other health conditions. It’s important to diagnose and address the cause of sudden vision loss promptly with emergency eye care.
